The sound of the music on this album could be described as like a punk crossover mixed with rock-a-billy and straight hard rock/heavy metal. The entire album has a campy white trash theme and there are some weird songs on here. They all sound cool though. The whole album is good. Anyone who is a Dead Kennedys fan who remembers the version rawhide off of the in god we trust album, just imagine an entire album with that kind of a humorous theme. Oh, and there are no nazi sentiments contained on this record either so don't be thrown off by the name.

Recorded by Wanghead Records in the summer of 1987, It Came From The Garage II is an out-of print compilation and rarity that features the first recordings by the Gories, a band that later spawned the Dirtbombs and directly influenced the White Stripes, while others bands like Termites of 1939 seemed to have recorded just one song.

The download is a .zip file with 320kbps .mp3 files of the songs. 

 The .zip file also includes a scan of a flyer that came with the album that has a short blurb about each band.

The Dirtbombs are an American garage rock band based in Detroit, Michigan, notable for blending diverse influences such as punk rock and soul while featuring a dual bass guitar, dual drum and guitar lineup. The Dirtbombs were formed by Mick Collins (of the influential garage punk band The Gories) as a side project and started recording songs by 1995.

In the nearly two decades since its conception, The Dirtbombs has been home to many Detroit rock musicians, both in the studio and on the road. As of September 2008 the band's lineup consists of Collins on guitar, Ko Melina (formerly of Ko & The Knockouts) on a distorted “fuzz” baritone guitar and Ben Blackwell (owner of record label Cass Records) and Pat Pantano (formerly of the Come Ons) on the two drum sets.

Noted producer Jim Diamond played bass from 1997 until 2004 and during that time Diamond also recorded and co-produced the Dirtbombs output with Mick Collins at his Ghetto Recorders studio in Detroit. Troy Gregory (formerly of Flotsam and Jetsam, Prong, and lead singer of The Witches and Troy Gregory & The Stepsisters) played bass from June 2004 to September 5, 2008, also constituting one of the longest runs of any Dirtbombs member: the four-year line-up of Collins, Pantano, Blackwell, Melina, and Gregory is the longest lasting Dirtbombs line-up to date. For a brief time in 2002, the band featured back-up singers Deanne Iovan (also formerly of the Come Ons) and future bass player Ko, in addition to five musicians.

Bobby Keys Is Gone....R.I.P.

Bobby Keys, the saxophonist who played on some of the Rolling Stones‘ biggest and best songs, has died. He was 70 years old. He had been fighting cirrhosis, according to the Nashville Scene.

The musician was born in Texas, and by the time he turned 16, he was touring with Buddy Holly and Bobby Vee. He first met the Stones in 1964, but didn’t play on one of their albums until five years later, when he was one of the musicians brought in to flesh out ‘Let It Bleed.’ He and Keith Richards formed a strong relationship from the start. They even shared a birthdate: December 18.

He played on every Stones album up until 1974′s ‘It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll,’ and then from 1980′s ‘Emotional Rescue’ through their most recent record, 2005′s ‘A Bigger Bang.’ He joined the band’s 1970 tour and was a familiar presence at their shows all the way up until a couple months ago, when he had to drop out of the group’s current tour for medical reasons.

Wire - Live New and Old

You have to hand it to them: for a band born of the brashness and youthful vigour of 77 punk, Wire had no real right to release an album as fresh and sparkling as last year’s Red Barked Tree. With the plaudits still ringing like tinnitus in their ears, the legendary experimental / post-punk/indie / art rock / whateveryouwannacallthem act launched into a cranny-poking tour that begat this typically forward-focused set for Radio France.

Rather than aiming to appease fly-by-night fans, The Black Session instead eschews the current trend for revisiting past glories and takes stock of more recent successes: apt, perhaps, for a band who did the whole Plays (Insert Classic Album) In Its Entirety shtick a couple of years before All Tomorrow’s Parties began its Don’t Look Back series and carried out the exercise as an act of land-salting rather than one of thumb-twiddling nostalgia.

Proceedings start with the deceptive – and somewhat listless – lull of Adapt before giving way to the surge and crash of Comet, an invigorating blast of frantic energy that leaves you wondering whether they were just toying with us during the lacklustre opener. It’s not until we’re five tracks deep that a true oldie appears – 1988’s Kidney Bingos – and they’re only intermittently peppered throughout from then on in, with sporadic nods to 154, a scuttling rendition of The Drill and a borderline-iconoclastic take on Pink Flag that sprawls beyond the 10-minute mark as it rounds the album out.

As well as a fitting tour totem for those who were there, The Black Session also serves as a neat manifesto update for those who should’ve been paying closer attention. That said, it isn’t perfect: the live setting inevitably meaning the loss of much lapidary polish and perfectionism while certain bubbling undercurrents are eclipsed by brash thrashes and thumps. Thankfully, though, the songs that underpin any given aural experiment are more than enough to make up for the lack of gloss, the band dishing out immaculately-placed jibes that slice to the bone and highlight a sharp, intellectual take on rock music that continues to prove you don’t have to dumb things down while letting your pop sensibilities win out.

David Sylvian - Japan frontman, master of soft melancholy. Robert Fripp, responsible for some of the most evil, demonic guitar playing on record. At first glance this would seem like a match made in hell.  On listening to The First Day, however - and I mean repeated listening, giving it the chance to sink in - we see that everything makes sense. Their musical personalities perfectly balance each other out. Fripp's predilection towards aimless white noise is offset by Sylvian's masterful sense of melody, and Sylvian's occasional lapse into cliches is saved by an unexpected guitar riff. They play off, between and around each other to product a heady stew of sounds and tones, full of surprises. The solo on "Firepower" and psychedelic phase of "20th Century Dreaming" alone would be worth the price, but there's so much more. In "God's Monkey," "Brightness Falls" and "Jean the Birdman" we get a taste of Sylvian's short, structured work given flavor by Fripp's ether and the masterful Stick work of Trey Gunn. Through the entire album Trey is all over the place, and yet always seems just where he should be without any overreaching. The best comparison I can make is to Jaco Pastorius's bass work on Joni Mitchell's Shadows & Light. But I digress.
In addition to masterully blending previous styles and letting loose with some of their most inspired playing in years, Robert and David take on house-techno music and ambient psychedelia - and do it better than musicians half their age. "Darshan," despite being a 17-minute take on the same dance rhythm, doesn't get repetitive; there's some dreamy synth or ear-twisting guitar around every corner. The last half of "20th Century Dreaming" sounds like aimless ambient fluff the first time, but there are layers of sounds and instrumentation you'll need headphones to pick apart. Following 55 minutes of this mentally exhausting mayhem, Fripp brings out a solo ambient piece to wind things down peacefully. This is an album probably more appreciated by Fripp fans than Sylvian fans, but definitely worth a listen from both.

Helmet has released seven studio albums and two compilation albums. The band found mainstream success with their 1992 major label debut Meantime, which debuted at number 68 on the Billboard 200, with singles "Unsung" and "In the Meantime". After the releases of Betty (1994) and Aftertaste (1997), Helmet broke up in 1998, but reformed in 2004. The band has since released three more albums―Size Matters (2004), Monochrome (2006) and Seeing Eye Dog (2010). Helmet is currently working on a new album, which is due for release in 2015.

Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera mused in a 2003 interview about being "considered old dogs that were about to be shot and put out of their misery" before the band embarked on this 2001 tour, their first in some 18 years. He needn't have worried. Manzanera and fellow original members Bryan Ferry and Andy Mackay, joined by an array of excellent musicians, singers, and even dancers, are in fine fettle for this 110-minute London concert (a documentary is also included). It certainly helps to have a clutch of stylish, appealing songs available, ranging from early hits like "Virginia Plain" and "Do the Strand" to later fare like the seductive "Avalon" and "Dance Away." OK, so the urbane, ever-dapper Ferry may not be the world's greatest singer, and these tunes are hardly world-changers... but with Roxy Music it's all about the vibe, and these folks have it in spades. Cheers, fellows.

This is a complete broadcast of the majority of the show. Where you hear a cut in the crowd noise, that is my removing station IDs or lead-ins to commercials as carefully as I could. Also note that The Queen Is Dead is criminally cut short by the radio station. For that track,I chose to fade it out over the station call-sign, as the call-sign was accompanied by music, and destroyed the track anyway.

All told though, this is a great FM recording, in my humble opinion. Hope you think so too. This is the show where Morrissey's infamous comment "I hope the pressure of having to stand on your own two feet isn't too difficult" originated. Hardly a comment that endeared him to the crowd, though one punter can clearly be heard proclaiming his love for the Moz right after that statement.

The Smiths were second on a lengthy bill paying tribute to the G-Mex Center's 10th anniversary. After The Smiths, New Order closed the show. I know that the New Order set has been torrented before on STG, as I downloaded it, but I am not aware of this set being seeded before. If it has, it is from a different source than mine.

This is a transfer from cassette tape. Cassette tape was purchased by me through the back pages of the NME in August, 1986. This is my last FM recording of this band to share. I have a couple of dodgy audience recordings, including one of the only Smiths show that I was witness to myself - at GWU University in Washington DC.

Having finally split two years ago after a difficult comeback tour, The Banshees left a formidable body of work.  Through their B-sides, Downside Up charts an alternative history of one of Britain's most cherished groups.  From the start they proved to be a far more dynamic proposition than their post-punk and goth peers and, especially during their early-'80s heyday, always relished the chance to try something new for a B-side.

Their first 'Voices', the haunting flip to 1978's debut single, 'Hong Kong Garden', sets an impressive standard, swiftly followed by a thrash through '20th Century Boy'.  The golden period, when drummer Budgie and ex-Magazine guitarist John McGeoch joined founders Siouxsie and ever-supple bassist Steve Severin, produced the tribal 'Congo Conga' and the spectral 'Cannibal Roses'.  Moonlighting from The Cure, and a good friend of Severin's, Robert Smith's brief stint as a Banshee resulted in enjoyably psychedelic studio doodles like 'There's A Planet In My Kitchen'.

Elsewhere, there are covers of 'All Tomorrow's Parties' and Ben E. King's 'Supernatural Thing', cut-up pop like 'Catwalk', and, for the first time on CD, 1984's 'The Thorn EP', for which the Banshees re-recorded B-sides 'Voices' and 'Red Over White' with a string quartet.  An exhaustive and fascinating collection from an astonishing group.

Siouxsie Sioux first came to our attention in 1976 as a Sex Pistols acolyte who was standing behind the band during the notorious interview with Bill Grundy on the Today programme.  Yet with hindsight, her work doesn't seem to belong to punk at all.  Her debut album didn't appear until 1978, by which time untutored three chord thrashing was beginning to appear passé.  Instead, with the Banshees she helped invent a form of post-punk discord full of daring rhythmic and sonic experimentation that was as influential as it is underrated.

Downside Up features 55 tracks spread across four discs, some of which have not previously appeared on CD.  The result is a collection that constitutes an alternative history far more revealing than a greatest hits package, for here is a group that never filled b-sides with inferior throwaway tracks.  Rather they saw them as an outlet for some their most radical and challenging work.

Standouts include the spiky Drop Dead/Celebration, the sinister Eve White/Eve Black and the chopped up industrial funk of Tattoo, tracks that prove that the Banshees stand proudly alongside PIL, Gang Of Four and The Fall as the most audacious and uncompromising musical adventurers of the post-punk era.
